FACT SHEET: BREAD SHORTAGE IN THE COUNTRY.

There has been a shortage of bread across the country for the past two weeks. This has made the citizenry raise brows in questions as to why bread is scarce and at a higher cost.

WHAT LED TO THE SHORTAGE AND THE INCREMENT IN THE PRICE OF BREAD?

1. The shopkeepers claim that not enough bread is being baked.

2. The bakers claim there is an increment in the price of flour at the market, from D1400 to D1600 (there are fluctuations in prices).

3. A wholesale flour dealer at Tipper Garage also said there is a scarcity of flour in the market, which is why the prices increased.

4. The general manager of Gambia Milling Cooperation, which is one of the manufacturing flour companies in the Gambia, told us the reasons for the scarcity of flour in the country is due to the production company not having enough wheat to continue production, owing to the delay in the arrival of their boats importing wheat.

CONCLUSION
The general manager of Gambia Milling Cooperation has made us understand that they are expecting their supply of wheat by the end of January 2022, to continue the regular production of flour.
